The 7th instalment of the South African Heroes Awards took place in Auckland Park, Johannesburg. The awards honour individuals who are making an extraordinary impact in their communities, celebrating the unsung heroes who dedicate their time and skills to improving the lives of those in their communities.The Founder of the awards Amanda Matshaka,says the awards ceremony not only recognises excellence, but aims to restore dignity and inspire hope.

The NSRI has reassured South African SafeTrx users that the app will remain fully operational, monitored and free to use locally. Chief Operating Officer of the NSRI Brett Ayres, says the NSRI SafeTrx app will continue to be actively monitor the Emergency Operations Centre and the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre, just as it has been for the past ten years. SafeTrx is widely used by SA’s water-safety network, and it has helped in many emergency responses in recent years where rescue was required.

Plymouth College has awarded 15-year-old Bokang Phiri a 50% football bursary, and his family now hopes to raise the remaining funds to help him study and train.The rising midfielder is on the brink of a life-changing opportunity after earning a 50% football and academic bursary from Plymouth College in the United Kingdom. The bursary covers half of Bokang’s tuition and boarding, and he is expected to report to Plymouth College on 6 January 2026.
