Japanese company launches eco friendly fireworks
Teaser / Tailpiece story
A Japanese fireworks manufacturer has partnered with a university researcher to develop what is believed to be the world's first water soluble fireworks shells and canisters.
The new design uses a water soluble resin already approved for agricultural use, allowing the shells to dissolve naturally after displays instead of leaving litter behind, especially near rivers, lakes and the ocean.
The company plans to produce 20 000 fireworks this year, with half expected to use the new environmentally friendly technology.
