Doctor Turns Endurance Into Opportunity

A doctor from Pretoria is using endurance sport to create opportunities for disadvantaged children. Dr Abraham Mogano, from Ninapark, recently completed the gruelling Cape Town Extreme Challenge, a multi-disciplinary endurance event.He aimed to raise funds and awareness for educational initiatives supporting children from underprivileged backgrounds. The challenge, which combines swimming, cycling and running, tests both physical endurance and mental resilience. Ahead of the main event, Mogano completed an 8km open water swim from Robben Island to Big Bay, an achievement that required navigating cold and unpredictable ocean conditions.

When Nancy Sokwa ka lost her teaching job during the COVID-19 pandemic, she faced a choice familiar to many Early Childhood Development practitioners: find another job or take the risk of building something of her own. The South African National Archery Association brought precision and passion to Johannesburg for its 76th National Championships at Marks Park. The event attracted 152 archers from South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. Grade 8 learner Katelynn Muller of Hoërskool Jim Fouché claimed her fourth consecutive national title in the Compound Girls U15 division. Having won gold in the U13 category in 2023 and dominating U15 for the past three years, Muller has technical skill and mental resilience, delivering arrow after arrow with remarkable accuracy under pressure.
