Durban’s R1 billion beachfront park set to bring family fun and jobs

eThekwini Municipality is moving ahead with a R1 billion redevelopment of the former Funworld site on Durban’s Golden Mile, transforming it into a modern family amusement park expected to open in 2027. Plans include a lightning roller coaster, vertical swing, a large virtual reality gaming zone, themed food courts and dedicated family areas.
The development is expected to create around 900 construction jobs and more than 500 permanent positions, while boosting tourism and helping revive Durban’s beachfront economy. City leaders say the project forms part of a broader long term strategy to restore the Golden Mile as a top coastal attraction.

The multi-stage event included swimming, cycling, and trail running across Cape Town peaks, testing both physical and mental endurance.
Growing up in a rural North West community, Mogano knows firsthand the power of education.
He hopes combining sport with social impact will inspire others and open doors for young people facing similar challenges.
