Glasgow Greenhouse Set for Revival
Teaser / Tailpiece story
The Springburn Winter Gardens in Glasgow is being restored after 40 years of neglect, thanks to R33.3 million secured by the Springburn Winter Garden Trust.
Built in 1892, the greenhouse was once Scotland’s largest and hosted concerts and exotic plant displays. After a severe storm in 1983, the building fell into disrepair.
The trust plans to stabilise it as a “living ruin,” opening it for arts, culture, and community use, with leasable spaces, a performance venue, and a café.
Local residents have long campaigned to preserve the structure, and the project marks a significant step in reviving community heritage.
