Elderly Residents Celebrate Arts in Jeffreys Bay

Two hundred elderly residents in Jeffreys Bay will receive free access to a major local arts event as part of an initiative honoring those who helped build the town. The program is part of Kunskoors’ newly launched Living Legends project, designed to reconnect senior citizens with the community’s cultural life and recognize their lasting contributions. Kunskoors director Soria Swart says the festival has always been more about people and connection than art. The event will take place on the first weekend of May.

For local runner Carol Kangwa, the Comrades Marathon is more than a race — it’s a journey toward peace and balance amid a demanding life.Running with the Panorama Running Club, Kangwa has already completed two memorable Comrades finishes and is now preparing for her third attempt. Her first race was the 2024 Up Run, covering 85.91km from Durban to Pietermaritzburg — the shortest route in Comrades history, yet still incredibly challenging. Carol finished the gruelling run in 11 hours 28 minutes and 35 secs.

Alberton Residents Benefit from Free Eye Care
Residents in Alberton received free eye tests and access to affordable spectacles during a community outreach event hosted by the Alberton Lions Club. Attendees were seen on a walk-in basis and received free vision screenings conducted by final-year optometry students. The initiative aims to improve access to basic eye care services at no cost to community members.The Alberton Lions Club has been running this program for about eight years, holding events three to four times annually to continually support the local community.
