Girls Make Rugby History

Two Cape Town teenagers are helping open a new chapter for South African girls’ rugby. Grade 12 learners Inga Jim, 18 and Lethokuhle Madawayi, 18, have been selected for South Africa’s first-ever SA Schools Under-18 girls rugby squads. Inga has also been given the honour of captaining one of the teams. She will play at loose forward, while Lethokuhle will take the field as a prop. The historic squads were announced after the inaugural FNB U18 Girls Week in Gqeberha. The two 26-player teams will now face each other at Grey High School, marking another milestone for the new SA Schools Girls programme.

At just 15, Adriaan van der Merwe is showing how young South African talent can dream big, work hard and earn a place on the international stage.Van der Merwe has been selected for the 20-man South African squad heading to the WBSC U15 Baseball World Cup in Mérida, Mexico this month.The young baseball star will have the chance to represent his country against some of the world’s strongest baseball nations, including Japan, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
