Better Local Government
Story 1
South Africa can improve local government without needing new policies or more resources. This is according to researcher and author Dr Harlan Cloete.Speaking at the launch of his new book, 101 Local Governance Lessons: From the Great Governance ZA Podcast, in Sandton last week, Cloete said one of the country's biggest challenges is how municipalities are managed. The book draws on more than four years of conversations recorded for Cloete's podcast, which has produced about 115 episodes featuring politicians, municipal officials, community leaders, business people and other governance practitioners. Cloete believes stronger leadership, better management and lessons shared by people working within communities could help bring meaningful improvements to local government.
