Team SA Ready to Shine at Special Olympics
South Africa has selected a 65-member team for the 2027 Special Olympics World Games in Santiago, Chile.The national selection games in Rustenburg, North West, determined the athletes and team members who will represent the country.More than 6,000 athletes from over 170 countries will compete in 22 sports at the Games.SOSA Ambassador, Sbu Shongwe:

Girls Make Rugby History
Two Cape Town teenagers are helping open a new chapter for South African girls’ rugby. Grade 12 learners Inga Jim, 18 and Lethokuhle Madawayi, 18, have been selected for South Africa’s first-ever SA Schools Under-18 girls rugby squads. Inga has also been given the honour of captaining one of the teams. She will play at loose forward, while Lethokuhle will take the field as a prop. The historic squads were announced after the inaugural FNB U18 Girls Week in Gqeberha. The two 26-player teams will now face each other at Grey High School, marking another milestone for the new SA Schools Girls programme.

King David High School’s educational technology and digital transformation director, **Nadine Smith**, has been recognised with two national awards at the Edu Women in Leadership Conference.Smith received the Education-Industry Collaboration Award for building partnerships that create real-world opportunities for learners and staff. She also won the AI & Digital Transformation Champion Award for her strategic use of technology to strengthen teaching and learning.She also shared her expertise at the conference, leading sessions on AI-Ready School 2030 and Integrating Robotics and Technology to Build Resilient Schools.

At 91, Dale “Grey Beard” Sanders has reclaimed his record as the oldest person to complete the upperlashion (Appalachian) Trail — all 3,530 km of it. Sanders says he fell 71 times, including six serious falls, one of which resulted in a short hospital stay. Amazingly, even a fall just 200 yards from the finish line couldn’t stop him.He kept going from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine, proving that age doesn’t have to stand in the way of an extraordinary adventure.Sanders, first set the Trail record in 2017 at age 82. Four years later, his 83-year-old friend M.J. Eberhart, took the title. But within months, Sanders announced his comeback plan.
