The University of KwaZulu-Natal has unveiled a new state-of-the-art mobile eye clinic to bring specialised eye care to rural communities across the province.
Donated by the South African Muslim Charitable Trust, the clinic is equipped for comprehensive eye exams, screenings, and the provision of corrective eyewear.
The mobile unit will also serve as a training platform for UKZN optometry students, combining hands-on experience with academic learning.
University and community leaders say the project will help prevent blindness, improve quality of life, and strengthen healthcare access in disadvantaged areas.
The initiative represents a partnership between UKZN and the SAMCT, aiming to uplift vulnerable communities while preparing future eye-care professionals.

A new museum in Mexico City is giving visitors a closer look at the personal life of Frida Kahlo, one of Mexico’s most celebrated artists. Kahlo, renowned for her vivid self-portraits and works exploring pain, identity and culture, is now being seen in a more private, family-focused light.
Casa Kahlo, opened by her descendants, is located in her parents’ former home and features original artworks, personal items, and photographs.
The museum highlights her close bond with her sister Cristina and the warmth of her family life, offering visitors a chance to see the woman behind the iconic art.
It also presents her story from a female perspective, showing her as a daughter, sister, aunt, and mentor to young painter.
