Cape Town has unveiled a R90 million, donor-funded paediatric orthopaedic facility at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital. The new unit brings all orthopaedic services under one roof, featuring a 30-bed ward, specialist theatres, consultation rooms, a physiotherapy gym, and an outdoor therapeutic play area.
The facility will serve over 5 000 children annually, providing surgeries, outpatient care, and rehabilitation, including specialised treatment for clubfoot. It will also act as a training hub for the next generation of paediatric specialists.
Hospital leaders and the city mayor praised the project as a milestone in paediatric healthcare, highlighting the power of collaboration and community support in creating a modern space for children’s care.
