Soweto NPO Brings Food and Warmth to Elderly Residents
Story 1
The African Women and Youth League’s Pimville branch visited the Soweto Home for the Aged in Mofolo Central.
Volunteers donated food and spent time with residents, lifting their spirits through conversation and companionship.
Chairperson Cynthia Gambu said the NGO supports the community out of love, assisting schools, care homes, and other vulnerable groups, with no personal gain.
Residents like Elsie Khumalo said they appreciated the visits, which allow them to share stories and feel connected.
Staff at the home welcomed the initiative, noting that such acts of kindness show the elderly they are loved and valued

Shannon Russell Breaks World Altitude Record for Women
Story 2
South African pilot Shannon Russell has set a new world altitude record for women in a Sling TSi, reaching 9,768 metres.
Her flight carried her late father’s ashes, honouring his legacy and inspiring young girls to pursue aviation.
Flying an unpressurised aircraft at this height required oxygen systems, health monitoring, and a second pilot for safety.
The record comes just after Shannon earned her Sport Pilot Instructor certificate, making her one of the few qualified instructors for advanced light-sport aircraft.
Before turning 21, she has gained extensive technical experience, flown at global airshows, and now serves as a Young Woman in Aviation Ambassador.

Shannon Russell Breaks World Altitude Record for Women
Story 3
Residents of Craigavon, led by Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe, have launched a pilot clean-up to show the impact of coordinated community action.
The initiative focuses on litter removal, trimming overgrown trees, clearing verges, and removing illegal signage along a stretch from Crawford School to Poplar Road circle.
It serves as a test for a long-term neighbourhood management plan run by a newly established non-profit company.
Van der Merwe says the project encourages homeowners, residents, and local estates to work together to support a permanent clean-up team.
The community has responded positively, with visible improvements already motivating more people to get involved.
