Music Business Awards Africa Opens Submissions to Celebrate Industry Excellence

The Music Business Academy has opened submissions for the inaugural Music Business Awards Africa, following its launch in Johannesburg.
The awards aim to recognise professionals and organisations driving growth, sustainability, and global recognition in Africa’s music industry.
Executives from CAPASSO, SAMRO, SAMPRA, Visa, Mercedes-Benz Motus, the City of Johannesburg, and national government attended the launch, highlighting a shared commitment to the continent’s creative economy.
Submissions open on 20 November, with nominees announced on 1 February, and the main ceremony set for 1 May 2026.
Organisers say the awards will follow international standards for transparency, with trophies crafted by the company behind the MTN-8 awards.
Founder Lesedi Mathonsi said the initiative is a milestone in recognising Africa’s music business professionals and their contribution to the industry’s growth.

Haven Night Shelter to stage 'Dignity in Motion' dance show

The Haven Night Shelter will stage its “Dignity in Motion” dance show at the Star Theatre in District Six, Cape Town, on 10 and 11 November.
Thirty participants from four of the shelter’s 13 facilities will perform ballroom routines including waltz, tango, cha-cha, rumba, jive, and quickstep.
The show highlights the talents of homeless adults while promoting healing, empowerment, and challenging perceptions about homelessness.
Rehearsals led by choreographer Alvina Meniqo and shelter operations manager Jaco Maree have taken place under the Nelson Mandela Boulevard overpass.
Tickets are available for purchase with proceeds supporting the shelter’s reintegration programmes.

UP Hosts Dutch Education Minister to Strengthen Teacher Training and Learner Well-Being

The University of Pretoria recently hosted Koen Becking, Netherlands Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, for talks on teacher training, learner well-being, and multilingual classrooms.
The discussion included South African education officials and universities, including Johannesburg and Western Cape.
Presentations focused on preparing teachers for foundation-phase learners, safe learning environments, and supporting multilingual teaching with African languages alongside English.
The visit builds on ongoing South Africa–Netherlands cooperation in higher education, including Erasmus+ and scholarship programmes, and UP’s partnerships with Dutch universities such as Tilburg, Leiden, Utrecht, and Wageningen.
Minister Becking’s visit aims to strengthen bilateral collaboration, develop teacher training programmes, and enhance learner well-being across both countries.
