Field of Dreams Soccer Project Brings Hope to Johannesburg Children
Story 1
A new initiative in Johannesburg city centre is aiming to give children safe spaces to play soccer and develop life skills.
The Field of Dreams project, led by the Maharishi Invincibility Institute in partnership with Standard Bank, Italtile, BW Cares Foundation, and former cricket captain Ali Bacher, will create the city’s first full-sized inner-city soccer field.
The field is part of MII’s broader Education Town campus, where young people from nearby townships access learning, skills training, and career opportunities.
Community-led programmes like SafeHubs complement the effort, providing secure spaces with soccer pitches, tutoring, mentorship, and digital literacy training for youth in Alexandra, Diepsloot, and Jabulani.
The project responds to safety concerns over neglected public parks, where children often play under dangerous conditions.
