SA Tourism arrivals rise 12.5% in first quarter

South Africa has recorded a 12.5% increase in international arrivals compared to the same period last year, with more than 2.9 million visitors in the first quarter.
According to Statistics South Africa, tourism supported about 954,000 direct jobs in 2024.
The sector grew through coordinated work between government and the industry to expand travel and visitor services.
Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille attributed the increase reflects stronger demand and growing economic activity in the sector.
