New play explores the life of Albie Sachs in Sandton
Story 1
A new stage production about the life of former Constitutional Court judge Albie Sachs is set to open at Theatre on the Square.
Albie Sachs Fathers Sons and Soft Vengeance, written by Gail Louw, runs from the 6th to the 24th of May and reflects on Sachs’ life as an anti apartheid activist, lawyer and Constitutional Court judge who helped shape South Africa’s democracy.
Director Fiona Ramsay says the production captures Sachs’ own words and the way he expresses himself. The play is performed by Graham Hopkins in a one person performance.

Climbers gear up for Table Mountain charity challenge

More than 140 participants are preparing for the Cableway Charity Challenge on Table Mountain, taking on repeated climbs of Platteklip Gorge to raise funds for four South African charities.
The event takes place on the 9th of May and brings together individuals, schools and corporate teams in support of conservation, wildfire response, rescue services and youth development initiatives.
Organisers say the challenge has grown into one of the country’s most unique fundraising events, with last year’s edition raising nearly one million rand.

Inclusive sports day promotes unity and awareness in Dobsonville

The Phila Sonke Wellness Initiative and Lead Change Developments hosted their second annual Sports and Fun Day at the Kopanong Centre, bringing together people with and without disabilities in a shared space of sport and recreation.
Supported by the City of Johannesburg and the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, the event featured inclusive activities such as aerobics, soccer, netball and adapted races designed to encourage participation for all abilities.
Organisers say the initiative is aimed at breaking down barriers, promoting inclusion and strengthening community awareness around disability and wellbeing.
