The Tshwane University of Technology and the City of Tshwane have launched the 8th annual Tshwane Varsity Hackathon at the Soshanguve South Campus, bringing together students, academia and industry to tackle real world challenges.
The initiative forms part of the university’s annual hackathon series and focuses on developing digital solutions linked to issues such as service delivery, unemployment and smart city development.
Organisers say the programme aims to turn student ideas into working prototypes and potential start ups, while building skills in innovation, teamwork and problem solving.

Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille has launched Africa's Travel Indaba 2026, as KwaZulu Natal prepares to host one of the continent’s leading tourism trade shows.
The event will take place from the 11th to the 14th of May at the Durban International Convention Centre, bringing together exhibitors, tour operators and international buyers.
The platform is aimed at securing travel deals, boosting visitor numbers and supporting local tourism businesses.

Nelson Mandela Bay fundraising drive honours rescue dog Finn’s birthday

A community animal welfare campaign in Nelson Mandela Bay is once again rallying support for shelters ahead of rescue dog Finn’s sixth birthday in June.
The drive is organised by local radio presenter Lesa Mare Harris in honour of her adopted dog, with Finn serving as the inspiration behind the annual effort.
Since May, collection points across the region have been receiving donations of pet food, blankets and other essentials to support organisations caring for stray and homeless animals in the Bay and Kouga areas.
The campaign runs until 24 June.
