The South African National Biodiversity Institute will offer free entry to most of its national botanical gardens during National Gardens Week, from 9 to 15 March 2026.
The initiative gives South Africans a chance to explore the country’s botanical gardens and learn more about biodiversity and conservation at no cost.
However, some of the larger gardens will have limited free access. Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden and Pretoria National Botanical Garden will offer free entry from Monday to Friday only.
The week is aimed at encouraging people to spend time in nature and appreciate South Africa’s unique plant life, making it easier for families to visit these spaces without the usual entrance fees.
