Shabir Madhi Wins Finland Scientific Award

Professor Shabir Madhi, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Wits University, has been named the 2026 recipient of the Maxwell Finland Award for Scientific Achievement.
The award, presented by the US-based National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, recognises contributions to public health through science.
Prof Madhi’s three-decade career has focused on vaccinology, studying how vaccines work and how effectively they protect against disease.
His research on vaccines for pneumonia, diarrhoea, influenza and RSV has helped shape World Health Organisation recommendations.

H&M Donates R1 Million to Star for Life

H&M South Africa has donated R1 million to Star for Life to expand youth empowerment and gender-based violence prevention programmes.
The funding will support Girls Clubs in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, including a new club at Wesbank Secondary School in Malmesbury.
The partnership will also launch a Boys Club at the school, where learners will take part in sessions on wellbeing, gender equality and violence prevention.
The donation will further support GBV awareness campaigns, survivor support services and leadership programmes led by registered social workers.

Silindokuhle School gets new computer lab

Two hundred learners at Silindokuhle Special School in Mangweni, Nkomazi, now have access to a new digital computer laboratory.
The facility, provided through the Vodacom Foundation and the Mpumalanga Department of Education, includes assistive technology for deaf and visually impaired learners as well as upgraded learning spaces.
The initiative aims to improve ICT access, build digital skills and expand opportunities for learners with disabilities.

Lucas Radebe has featured in Leeds United’s 2026/27 away kit launch campaign in England.
The Bafana Bafana icon appears in a short film promoting the club’s history and new strip, which includes the return of the white rose crest.
Radebe also serves as a Leeds United ambassador and supports community programmes run by the Leeds United Foundation.
His involvement follows recent visits where he took part in club and youth development activities across the city.
