Young Innovators Tackle Gauteng Challenges

Fifty young innovators will compete in the YTE G13 Hackathon Finale in Johannesburg on 7 and 8 July.
Ten teams from across Gauteng will develop technology solutions to challenges including crime, healthcare, education, employment, energy and water security.
The competition, hosted by the Gauteng Department of e-Government and Microsoft, aims to help young people apply their technology skills to real community problems.
The winning team will be crowned at the closing ceremony on 9 July.

Qhubeka Supports Limpopo Learners

Qhubeka Charity has donated bicycles to 106 Grade 12 learners at Motsheudi Secondary School in Limpopo.
The learners first received cycling training before being given bicycles to help them travel to school more safely and spend less time walking.
The programme aims to improve access to education by reducing transport barriers for learners in rural communities.
The bicycles also give learners greater independence as they prepare for their final school year.

Elihle Stali was selected for developing AI-powered smart glasses that help blind and visually impaired people navigate more independently, inspired by his blind grandmother.
A crowdfunding campaign has helped him raise support to attend the international programme.
