Bedfordview Literacy Project Set for National Expansion

A literacy initiative launched by the Saheti School Pre Play School PTA in Bedfordview is set to expand across South Africa in 2027 after a successful pilot programme this year.
The Khula Book Collective collected 1 859 new and gently used children's books, which have been donated to Carter Primary School and Emfundisweni Primary School in Alexandra.
Working with Breadline Africa, the books have been added to school libraries to help improve access to reading material and encourage a stronger culture of literacy.
Organisers say the initiative will now invite more schools and parent associations across the country to take part.

Upington Teen Dancers Bound for the Broadway Stage

A group of teenage dancers from Upington in the Northern Cape are preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime after earning places in an international dance showcase in New York later this month.
The dancers impressed judges during the audition process and will join performers from several countries in a Broadway production. For many of them, it will be their first time travelling overseas and performing on one of the world's most famous stages.
The group hopes their achievement will inspire more young people to pursue dance and believe that talent from small South African communities can reach the international stage

Tennis Fun Day Supports Animal Shelters in Edenvale

A community tennis fun day at Merrylyn Tennis Club in Edenvale has collected cat and dog food for the Edenvale SPCA and The Cat Shack.
Instead of paying an entry fee, participants donated pet food, with families of all ages taking part in a day of coaching, social tennis and community activities.
Organisers say the event was designed not only to support local animal welfare organisations, but also to introduce more children and adults to tennis and encourage them to stay active.
The club hopes events like these will help grow the sport while continuing to serve the local community.
