Chinese carmaker Chery has officially taken over Nissan's former vehicle manufacturing plant in Rosslyn, north of Pretoria, marking its move into vehicle production in South Africa.
The company plans to begin production in mid 2027, retain all 692 existing workers and create nearly 3 000 direct and indirect jobs.
The investment is expected to boost local manufacturing, increase the use of locally made vehicle components and support more jobs across the automotive supply chain.

Bicycles Help Limpopo Learners Get to School

A total of 106 Grade 12 learners at Motsheudi Secondary School in Limpopo have received bicycles through the Qhubeka Charity to help them travel to and from school more safely and efficiently.
The learners were also taught how to ride their new bicycles, giving them greater independence and reducing the time spent walking long distances to school each day.
The initiative is expected to help learners arrive at school on time, with more time and energy to focus on their studies during their final year.

Boys Assembly Aims to Empower Young Men in the Western Cape

More than 500 boys from communities across the Bergrivier Municipality are gathering in Piketberg today and tomorrow for the first Boys Assembly to be held in the Western Cape since the programme began in 2018.
The initiative, led by the South African National AIDS Council Men's Sector and several government partners, will tackle issues including HIV prevention, substance abuse, gangsterism, unemployment, school dropout and gender based violence.
Organisers say the aim is to equip young men with the knowledge and support they need to make positive life choices and become responsible members of their communities.
