Cape Town’s Kaapse Klopse, also known as the Cape Minstrels or Tweede Nuwe Jaar returned to the streets this January, delighting residents of all ages. Parents lifted toddlers onto their shoulders, grandparents waved from the sidelines, and crowds celebrated the city’s rich and layered history.For more than 140 years, Cape Town’s Kaapse Klopse parade has marked a special moment in local history. The tradition dates back to the 19th century when slaves in the Cape were given January 2nd off as their only day of freedom each year.

NSFAS Acting Board Chairperson Dr Mugwena Maluleke outlined the scheme’s readiness ahead of the new academic cycle. Maluleke said NSFAS has completed key preparations, including processing funding applications, validating academic results for continuing students.

Parkview and Greenside East residents, together with the Parkview Residents Association, celebrated a year of community spirit and improvements.Volunteers collected up to 900 bags of waste each month, maintained parks and pavements, and promoted safer, cleaner public spaces. Highlight events were Movie in the Park, the Spring Run, and a large Halloween Carnival. Fundraising raised over 250,000 rand for Parkview Library upgrades.
