Johannesburg to host global cultural expansion

Johannesburg will host the first African edition of BLACKWEEK in November this year, bringing a major global creative-commerce platform to South Africa.
The event, in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, will connect African and international creators, entrepreneurs and cultural leaders.
BLACKWEEK Africa will feature conversations, exhibitions and performances that link creativity with economic opportunity.
CEO of the Foundation, Dr. Mbongiseni Buthelezi, says BLACKWEEK Africa creates a space that honours creative power, collective voice, and community agency, allowing communities to shape their own futures.

Western Cape tourism industry recovers to pre-pandemic levels

The Western Cape tourism industry has recovered to pre-pandemic levels, with over 1 million passengers passing through Cape Town International Airport by October-2025.
The City of Cape Town recorded more than 2.4 million overnight visitors last year, generating over R24.5 billion in economic activity and supporting more than 106 000 jobs.
The Airports Company South Africa noted that the milestone came ahead of the festive season, indicating strong travel demand.
Official figures for the 2025 festive season across all tourism sectors will be released at the end of January.

YouTube secures exclusive Oscars rights starting 2029

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has signed a multi-year deal that will give YouTube the exclusive global rights to the Oscars, beginning in 2029.
The deal will run through 2033.
ABC, owned by Disney, has been the home of the Oscars for decades and will continue to show the awards ceremony through 2028.
The Academy says that through this collaboration, they will be able to celebrate cinema, inspire new generations of filmmakers, and provide access to their film history on an unprecedented global scale.
