The National Student Financial Aid Scheme says it is fully prepared for the 2026 academic year, with systems in place to support student registrations, funding decisions and allowance payments. NSFAS Acting Board Chairperson Dr Mugwena Maluleke outlined the scheme’s readiness ahead of the new academic cycle. Maluleke said NSFAS has completed key preparations, including processing funding applications, validating academic results for continuing students.

Parkview and Greenside East residents, together with the Parkview Residents Association, celebrated a year of community spirit and improvements.Volunteers collected up to 900 bags of waste each month, maintained parks and pavements, and promoted safer, cleaner public spaces. Highlight events were Movie in the Park, the Spring Run, and a large Halloween Carnival. Fundraising raised over 250,000 rand for Parkview Library upgrades.

Finnish eyewear company IXI is preparing to launch smart glasses that look like ordinary spectacles but can automatically adjust focus based on the wearer’s needs.The glasses use eye-tracking sensors and liquid crystals in the lenses to instantly change prescription. IXI says this technology improves on traditional bifocal and varifocal lenses, which help with near and distance vision.By using a dynamic lens, IXI does away with fixed magnification areas.
