Rand Water Maintenance Disruptions

The third stage of Rand Water’s infrastructure maintenance project begins today until Thursday.The work will involve valve and meter replacements on the F18 pipeline. The 54-hour maintenance taking place at the Eikenhof Pump Station, will affect several areas, including Roodepoort Deep, Meadowlands, Fleurho, Doornkop and Braamfischerville. Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero says residents may experience low pressure or outages, with full system recovery expected up to seven days:

Fuel Prices Set to Drop

South Africans are set to benefit from lower fuel prices from Wednesday, driven by a decline in global crude oil prices and a stronger rand. Month-end figures from the Central Energy Fund indicate that petrol prices will decrease by 62 cents per litre for 93 Unleaded and 66 cents per litre for 95 Unleaded. Diesel is also expected to see significant cuts, with prices dropping by R1.36 per litre for 500ppm and R1.49 per litre for 50ppm. Department spokesperson Robert Maake says the reductions will push coastal prices of 95 Unleaded petrol and 50ppm diesel to their lowest levels since February 2022.

Four Grade 10 pupils from Camps Bay High School have been selected to join the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. The CPYO which is part of the Cape Philharmonic Music Academy, aims to provide young musicians with the opportunity to perform at a professional level and develop their skills within a full symphony orchestra.Candidates auditioning for the orchestra were required to perform excerpts from orchestral works by Mozart.

India’s rhino stronghold of Assam reported zero deaths from poaching among its populations of greater one-horned rhinos in 2025.The achievement mirrors the success of 2023, another year in which no rhinos were lost to poachers.India is now home to some 4,000 rhinos, rebounding from a low of about 1,800 in the past. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called it a proud moment while noting that 2025 also brought other encouraging wildlife conservation milestones.
