South Africa’s new Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system is set to boost jobs and streamline international travel, with the Department of Tourism projecting 80,000 to 100,000 positions to be created.
Piloted during last year’s G20 Summit, the ETA allows travellers to apply online, captures biometrics, and provides real-time approvals, cutting processing times significantly.
Tourism Minister Patricia de Lille highlighted that the country welcomed a record 10.4 million international arrivals in 2025, calling the system transformative for the travel industry.
