Eskom donates solar systems to support learning in Gauteng schools

Eskom handed over rooftop solar systems to five schools in Orange Farm in Gauteng, providing them with reliable and sustainable power to support teaching and learning.

Each school received inverters, batteries and solar panels which were funded by the Eskom Development Foundation.

The systems provide uninterrupted power during outages, lowering energy costs and allowing savings to be reinvested in educational resources.

Eskom says it intends to roll out the programme across the country.

The Gauteng Department of Education's Reorganization of Schools Team was awarded the Public Sector Innovator of the year award and achieved Gold in the Innovation Harnessing Technology category in the 2025 National Batho Pele Awards, which were hosted by the Department of Public Service and Administration at Emperors Palace.

The event celebrated the vital role of innovation in enhancing public service delivery to citizens.

Cape Town launches Gas-to-Energy facility

The City of Cape Town has launched a new gas-to-energy facility at the Coastal Park Landfill that will generate enough electricity to power more than 4,000 households.
The project captures methane from decomposing waste, feeding it into generators that produce clean energy.
The resulting electricity is supplied directly to the national grid and is used to power on-site operations.

The city says it plans to invest more in similar gas-to-power projects at other landfill sites over the next three years.

SA Tourism says the Surf Expo Africa showcased how South Africa's oceanfront culture can be leveraged for sustainable economic growth and job creation.

The event, which took place at the end of November at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, forms part of the entity’s broader mandate to attract both leisure visitors and major business events to the country.

SA Tourism’s Thandiwe Mathibela, says the expo attracted both domestic and international audiences, offering a platform to highlight South Africa’s coastal attractions, blue-flag beaches, accommodation, cuisine and the arts.
