The City of Johannesburg has provided a comprehensive update on the second phase of the Lilian Ngoyi Street rehabilitation project.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency's Project Manager Miyelani Maluleke says the 1.3 km Phase 2 is proceeding according to its 21-month schedule, with completion expected by August 2026.

Key construction activities are underway, including the relocation of underground services, and the installation of new sewer, water, and stormwater systems.

More than 80 000 visitors attended the recent 2025 traditional Christmas lights switch-on event in Cape Town, which took place at the Grand Parade.

The annual event, which is a major festive tradition, featured live performances from top local artists.

In addition to the central city switch-on, smaller festive lighting events took place in Langa on the 2nd of December and Mitchells Plain on the 5th of December.
The Western Cape’s Benedicta van Minnen says the events are a celebration of unity and resilience.
