Fundraising journey to support orphaned elephants gets underway

Two Johannesburg adventurers are preparing for a unique fundraising challenge that will see them travel to HERD Elephant Orphanage using as many different forms of transport as possible on World Elephant Day.
Kyle Malyon and Lauren Lewis will make the journey by skateboard, Gautrain, motorcycle, bus and even a vintage Bentley to raise awareness and funds for South Africa's first dedicated elephant orphanage.
The pair have already raised R18 500 towards their R25 000 target, with donations set to help care for orphaned and vulnerable elephants at the HERD Trust.

Science and technology bring practical solutions to rural communities

The Department of Science, Technology and Innovation has launched six community focused projects in eXobho in KwaZulu Natal to help tackle local development challenges.
The initiatives include an animal tagging system to help reduce livestock theft, with other projects aimed at using innovation to improve daily life and support economic growth in rural communities.
One of the organisations supporting the initiative is the South African National Energy Development Institute.
CEO Dr Titus Mathe says the organisation is also working to bridge the digital divide.

Banyana Banyana reach WAFCON quarterfinals

Banyana Banyana have booked their place in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals after a hard fought 1 nil victory over Burkina Faso in Morocco.
Thembi Kgatlana scored the winning goal as South Africa climbed from the bottom of Group B to finish second and secure a place in the knockout stages.
Banyana will now face hosts Morocco on Saturday, with a place in the semifinals also moving the team one step closer to qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
