The 2026 WomenCan Awards recently took place at The Divine Sunset Venue in Midrand, celebrating women who have overcome adversity and made a meaningful impact in their communities.

The event marked the close of Women's Month by spotlighting female leaders, entrepreneurs, and survivors who are breaking boundaries across business, education and social impact.

Among those celebrated was the founder of the Lethabo Foundation, Relebohile Msiza, who was diagnosed with cancer while studying at university before going on to establish her own business.

Emperors Palace has extended its community outreach efforts by supporting the Cute Kiddies Day Care Centre in Rondebult with a new library, educational resources and improvements to the facility.
The initiative is aimed at creating a better learning environment and to give young learners greater access to educational opportunities.

Cute Kiddies principal Yiselwa Sidzatane, joined Peermont executives and the Peermont Community Benefit Trust chairperson Tshidi Mdima for a special reading session with the learners in the newly established facility.
The initiative forms part of the resort's ongoing efforts to make a positive difference in communities within its catchment area.

A sheep’s seven-year survival in the Karoo has inspired a new initiative in support South Africa’s future farmers.
Rico survived drought, predators and extreme conditions before being found in the Karoo, between the Western and Northern Cape.

The sheep produced a record 30-point-seven kilograms of wool, following his rescue.

The National Wool Growers’ Association and the University of the Free State have since established the Rico Bursary Fund, with ten agricultural bursaries allocated.
