Joburg drafts first e-hailing management policy
Story 1
The City of Johannesburg is developing its first e-hailing management policy to regulate services like ride-hailing and motorbike deliveries.
Led by the Johannesburg Development Agency, the policy aims to improve passenger safety, reduce conflict and integrate e-hailing into the city’s transport system.
Proposals include designated parking at shopping centres, stricter driver requirements, background checks and visible IDs.
The city is currently consulting widely with stakeholders from Sandton to Soweto, with the first Status Quo Report due at the end of September.
The policy is expected to build trust, tackle fraud and make the service safer for both drivers and passengers.

South African Artist Transforms Weapons into Beaded Art
Story 3
Johannesburg-born artist Ralph Ziman has turned guns, a Casspir police vehicle, and even a MiG-21 fighter jet into intricate beaded artworks.
Working with over 100 Zimbabwean and Ndebele artisans, the MiG-21 alone used around 35 million beads and took more than five years to complete.
The finished jet was recently exhibited at The Museum of Flight in Seattle.
Ziman’s work reflects South Africa’s history of violence while supporting the next generation. Proceeds fund scholarships for artisans’ children and art therapy for children affected by war in Ukraine.
The project, called Weapons of Mass Production, shows how creativity can transform instruments of war into symbols of hope and community.
