Johannesburg adds 12 new Pikitup Compactor Trucks to boost waste collection

The City of Johannesburg has unveiled 12 new Pikitup compactor trucks at the Southdale Depot to strengthen waste collection and improve cleanliness.
The MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, Councillor Jack Sekwaila, says the new vehicles will help enhance bulk and commercial waste services and support the City’s Smart City agenda.
In addition, 41 caged trucks have been introduced for the separation-at-source recycling programme.
Sekwaila stressed that the new fleet will not only improve service delivery but also generate revenue and support recycling cooperatives through new waste-sorting facilities.
He said the milestone demonstrates the City’s commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable Johannesburg.

Immigration capacity at Cape Town International Airport is set to almost double, following a partnership between the Border Management Authority, the Western Cape Government and the City of Cape Town.
The initiative, launched by Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber alongside Premier Alan Winde and Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, will see 48 assistant port control officers added to the airport’s staff, increasing the team from 66 to 114.
The increase will help improve border efficiency, boost tourism and enhance national security while supporting local job creation and smoother processing.
