Five SA schools ranked in 2026 Spear’s Schools Index

Five South African private schools were ranked in the Spear’s Schools Index 2026.
Cordwalles Preparatory School, Hilton College, Michael-house and St Anne’s Diocesan College were listed in the top 100, while Western Province Preparatory School was placed in the “Top Recommended” tier.
The index assesses schools on academics, student support, leadership and overall student experience.
Three of the ranked schools are in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, with others in Pietermaritzburg and Cape Town.

Sounds of Azania will host the 2026 Choral Indigenous Music Awards in July at AMPD Studios New Town, Johannesburg.
Public voting opened in March and closes on 19 July across multiple categories.
The event will feature live performances, collaborations and stream online to local and international audiences.

USAf and Services Sector SETA launch R520m bursary for 5,000 students

Universities South Africa and the Services Sector Education and Training Authority launched a R520 million bursary scheme to fund more than 5,000 students at public universities.
The programme provides up to R100,000 per student per year for first-, second- and final-year students who meet academic requirements.
24 universities have each received R20 million, enabling about 200 students per institution to access funding.
The scheme covers study costs, allowing students to continue and complete their degrees.
