SA film selected for 15th Luxor African Film Festival in Egypt

South African film God’s Work has been selected for the Long Film Competition at the 15th Luxor African Film Festival in Egypt, where it will premiere across the Middle East and North Africa from 30 March to 5 April.
Directed by Michael James and produced by Sithabile Mkhize, the Durban-set film follows a group of unhoused men living in a deteriorating building as they survive hardship together.
After a sold-out premiere at the Durban International Film Festival, the film will also screen at the Joburg Film Festival currently taking place in Sandton.
Developed with support from South African film bodies and international partners, God’s Work continues to expand its reach through festival screenings at home and abroad.

Soweto youth get work ready

Young people in Meadowlands, Soweto have completed a five-day Workplace Readiness Launch Programme aimed at preparing them for the world of work.
The initiative was hosted by Hands-on Skills Solutions, Tsotetsi Holistic Wellness Hub and People of Joburg.
Participants received training in professional communication, teamwork, problem-solving and workplace etiquette, along with guidance on emotional intelligence and resilience.
Organisers say the programme equipped attendees with practical tools and renewed confidence to enter the job market and contribute meaningfully in their future careers.

Teacher wins $1m prize for creating learning centres in India

Indian educator and activist Rouble Nagi has won the $1 million Global Teacher Prize for creating more than 800 learning centers for children who have never attended school.
Her classrooms, in over 100 villages, give children safe spaces to learn despite poverty, child labour and poor infrastructure.
