Teen Swimmers Complete 72km Relay to Help Injured Rugby Player
Story 2
Teen swimmers Shoneé Cornelissen, Katherine Persson, Eva, and Georgina Smith completed a 72-kilometre relay swim from Fish Hoek to Hout Bay to raise funds for 14-year-old rugby player Leandro Jantjies, whose life was changed by a severe neck injury.
Braving cold waters, strong currents, and a night stretch around Cape Point, the team pushed through fatigue, nausea, and jellyfish to finish the gruelling swim in 24 hours.
Their determination paid off both in effort and impact, as they more than doubled their fundraising target, collecting R283,828 to support Leandro’s ongoing care through The Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund.
