FoodForward SA has been nominated for the 2026 Earthshot Prize for its work reducing food waste and fighting hunger.
The organisation rescues surplus food from farmers, manufacturers and retailers and redistributes it to nearly one million people every day through a network of 2,500 community groups across the country.
By keeping edible food out of landfills, FoodForward SA also helps cut methane emissions that contribute to climate change.
The Earthshot Prize, founded by Prince William, awards five global winners about R20 million each, with the next ceremony set to take place in Mumbai in November.
