A once homeless man is about to release his first book. Jacob Tsoeu, once homeless for over a decade, is about to release his first book, Winning Language: Speak and Vroostaan. This powerful debut tells a moving story of survival, faith, and hope. Originally from Sasolburg, Tsoeu came to Johannesburg after losing both his parents. Hoping to find work, he instead ended up living on the streets. His book shines a light on “Speak and Vroostaan,” a unique street language developed and used by the homeless to communicate with each other in tough situations. Support from the Rosebank Shelter and local churches played a big role in his journey.

The 2025 Comrades Marathon happening this sunday will be a larger and more organised event with a new finish line and staggered starts. The 98th edition, a Down Run, will feature a 89.98km course, slightly longer than the 2023 Down Run, and a new street finish outside Durban’s People’s Park.The race will also have a two-start system, aiming to improve safety and flow of runners, especially given the expected largest ever Down Run field of 22,000 starters.The traditional finish at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium will be replaced with a street finish on Masabalala Yengwa Avenue outside People’s Park. Ballito’s 16-year-old chess sensation, Jorah Soojay, has made South Africa proud by winning gold at the 2025 African Schools Chess Championship in Kenya. Jorah dominated the U17 division with a perfect score, winning all 9 matches — the only unbeaten player among 1 109 competitors. He overcame tough opponents, marathon five-hour games, and even battled the flu to claim the title. Jorah says the win means more than just a trophy — it's a symbol of resilience, faith, and national pride. His victory also earned him a provisional FIDE Master title, and he’s now setting his sights on becoming an International Master.
