The 2025 Comrades Marathon happening this sunday will be a larger and more organised event with a new finish line and staggered starts. The 98th edition, a Down Run, will feature a 89.98km course, slightly longer than the 2023 Down Run, and a new street finish outside Durban’s People’s Park.The race will also have a two-start system, aiming to improve safety and flow of runners, especially given the expected largest ever Down Run field of 22,000 starters.The traditional finish at Kingsmead Cricket Stadium will be replaced with a street finish on Masabalala Yengwa Avenue outside People’s Park. Motorists in Gauteng could soon see a major change to their number plates, as the province moves to introduce a high-tech, tamper-proof system.Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Transport MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela are expected to launch the new provincial number plate system at the Nasrec Expo Centre today.The plates will feature tamper-evident decals, forensic QR codes, and a fully digitised backend system aimed at curbing vehicle theft, fraud, and plate cloning. According to the provincial transport department, the system will enhance road safety and improve law enforcement operations across the province.A six-month pilot phase will begin with government fleet vehicles, before the system is rolled out more broadly.

The original cast of “Back to the Future” has reunited to help locate a piece of movie history that went missing about 40 years ago. A hunt is underway for the cherry red Gibson ES-345 guitar, which was played by Michael J. Fox in the 1985 movie as part of the pivotal “Enchantment Under the Sea” school dance scene. Filmmakers tried to locate the instrument during production of the 1989 sequel, but were unsuccessful. In a video released by guitar company Gibson, Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Harry Waters Jr., made a plea to fans and collectors to help them track down the instrument.
