CrossFit members turn fitness into hope for children with cancer
CrossFit Rising Oak members took part in six hours of cycling, rowing, skiing and high-intensity workouts to raise funds for children with cancer.The fitness challenge at Broadacres Shopping Centre supported the non-profit organisation Rainbows and Smiles, which provides care and assistance to children with cancer and their families.Participants pushed through aching muscles and fatigue, saying the chance to make a difference for children in need made every effort worthwhile.

Service Dining Rooms marks 91 years
The Service Dining Rooms in Cape Town is celebrating 91 years of supporting homeless and vulnerable people, marking more than nine decades of continuous service. Based in District Six, the independently funded charity has served more than six million meals since opening its doors in 1935. It now provides between 275 and 350 nutritious lunches every weekday, with demand often reaching 400 meals as more people seek support. The organisation will celebrate the milestone with a special Founder's Day lunch for its clients.

Daredevil Run Returns to Raise Men's Cancer Awareness
Registration has opened for the 2026 Hollard Daredevil Run, with participants encouraged to wear purple Speedos and help raise awareness for men's cancer. Now in its 17th year, the popular charity event will take place on 23 October. 1.2 million rand was raised through last year’s event which was presented to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The funds will support prostate cancer awareness campaigns and help improve early detection for men across the country.

Madrid's famous High Heel Race once again drew large crowds during the city's Pride Week celebrations. Participants raced into the town wearing heels at least 10 centimetres high. Competitors, including many dressed in colourful drag outfits, sprinted through the lively street. The race is known for its strict rules, with runners disqualified if their heels did not meet the minimum height requirement. More than just a competition, the annual event has become a joyful Pride tradition that celebrates self-expression, humour and togetherness.
