A community development initiative is helping revive rural villages in the Eastern Cape. The initiative suppors local entrepreneurs and creates new economic opportunities. Since 2023, programme has channelled more than 2.5 million rand into black and youth-owned businesses, helping transform informal enterprises into sustainable companies.Founded by local development practitioner Luyolo Mapekula, the initiative provides the structured support many rural entrepreneurs need to grow their businesses, create jobs, develop skills and strengthen local economies.

Three rescued baboons are one step closer to returning to the wild after completing months of rehabilitation at the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife in Durban. Nonna, Willie and Pumpkin are being transferred to a specialised primate facility in Limpopo, where they will begin integrating into social troops as part of the next stage of their rehabilitation.After receiving dedicated care and monitoring, the baboons are now ready to develop the social skills they need to survive in the wild. The move marks an important milestone on their journey, bringing them closer to their ultimate goal of living freely in their natural habitat.
The baboons' progress is a heartwarming example of successful wildlife rehabilitation, highlighting the dedication of conservation teams working to give rescued animals a second chance at life in the wild.

Registration has opened for the 2026 Hollard Daredevil Run, with participants encouraged to wear purple Speedos and help raise awareness for men's cancer. Now in its 17th year, the popular charity event will take place on 23 October. 1.2 million rand was raised through last year’s event which was presented to the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The funds will support prostate cancer awareness campaigns and help improve early detection for men across the country.
The Daredevil Run combines fun with purpose, uniting communities to break the stigma around men's health while raising life-changing funds for cancer awareness, screening and support.
