The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation has opened applications for its High School Scholarship Programme for qualified Grade 6 learners across South Africa. The scholarship supports academically strong learners with leadership potential and financial need by covering tuition, boarding, a monthly allowance and extracurricular activities. Recipients also take part in a long-term entrepreneurial development programme that builds leadership, confidence and problem-solving skills. Applications close on 15 September.

Fourteen-year-old Johannesburg learner Phoenix Howie has been selected to represent Gauteng in three different age groups at the 2026 Ice Hockey Inter-Provincial Tournaments. The Reddam House Helderfontein learner has earned places in the Gauteng U16, U18 and U20 first teams. Despite balancing school with training and competition, Phoenix has continued to excel, competing against older, more experienced players and establishing himself as one of the province's rising ice hockey stars.

The University of Pretoria has launched the Degrees Delivered campaign, a three year fundraising drive. This aims to raise R50 million to help graduates whose qualifications are being withheld because of outstanding student debt. The university plans to raise the money through donations from alumni, businesses, staff and the public, as well as fundraising events and a staff payroll giving initiative.The funding will be used to settle qualifying graduates' debt, allowing them to receive their degree certificates and pursue employment, professional registration or further study.
