South Africa has posted two consecutive primary budget surpluses for the first time in 15 years, lowered inflation to 3%, and stabilised its debt-to-GDP ratio. The rand has strengthened by about 10%, while the JSE has grown 50% last year on strong commodity prices. Eskom has drastically reduced load shedding, and private power generation is expanding.

Honeydew Community Policing Forum will host an Elderly Fraud Awareness Talk later this month, aimed at helping residents protect themselves from online and banking scams.The session will take place on January 20th at Tin Road Church Bromhof. The talk is open to elderly residents, as well as family members, caregivers, and anyone interested in learning more about fraud prevention. According to the Honeydew Community Policing Forum, the session will focus on common forms of online and banking fraud that often target elderly people.

Danielle Lubbe is among the women preparing to run the full length of South Africa this February to support children in need. The 2160km Cape2Care 2026 relay is organised by the non-profit Dynamic Women for Children. The run will stretch from Musina in the north to Cape Agulhas in the south. The team hopes to break a world record while raising awareness and funds for children facing hardship. Over the past three years, DWFC has walked more than 1,400km from Pretoria to Cape Town, proving the impact of dedication. In 2026, they are taking on an even bigger challenge by running the distance.
