Limpopo-based granny football pioneer and elderly advocate Mama Beka Ntsanwisi has received international recognition in Casablanca, Morocco, for her contribution to women’s veterans football.
The Vakhengula Vakhengula founder has been honoured for empowering women over 50 through health, wellness and community sport.
2-awards recognise her leadership in reshaping veterans women’s football.
The foundation spokesperson Richie Mathembula says the recognition is meaningful despite challenges.

Albion Wheelers Cycling Club raises R25 000

The R25 000 raised by the Albion Wheelers Cycling Club will support Bambanani Southdale Community Service’s year-round projects, including soup kitchens, food packs, outings for children in care, and assistance to retirement villages and local organisations.
The cyclists raised the funds by completing a four-day, 700 km ride from Brackendowns in Alberton to Durban, overcoming more than 6 200 metres of elevation.
Thirty-two cyclists, supported by two drivers, participated in the tour.
Tour Director Michael Hayes says the tour showcased the club’s dedication to giving back.

Western Cape tourism industry recovers to pre-pandemic levels

The Western Cape tourism industry has recovered to pre-pandemic levels, with over 1 million passengers passing through Cape Town International Airport by October-2025.
The City of Cape Town recorded more than 2.4 million overnight visitors last year, generating over R24.5 billion in economic activity and supporting more than 106 000 jobs.
The Airports Company South Africa noted that the milestone came ahead of the festive season, indicating strong travel demand.
Official figures for the 2025 festive season across all tourism sectors will be released at the end of January.

South Africa names squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

South Africa has named a 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, to be played in India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8, 2026, with Aiden Markram appointed captain.
The squad includes first-time World Cup selections for Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka and Jason Smith.
Kagiso Rabada returns to the T20I side after recovering from a rib injury, while Anrich Nortje is included following his role as South Africa’s leading wicket-taker at the 2024 tournament.
The squad also features Quinton de Kock, David Miller, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen.
