Romania to reintroduce griffon vultures in Carpathians after 100 years
Story 3
Romania is gearing up to reintroduce young griffon vultures to the Carpathian Mountains a hundred years after the species disappeared from the region.
The move is part of a long term plan to create a European style Yellowstone by restoring wildlife across the Făgăraș Mountains.
Conservation groups say bringing back vultures will help rebuild a balanced ecosystem alongside species like bison and beavers. Young birds will first be released into large aviaries so they can adjust before taking to the skies.
The project has strong support from conservationists and growing backing from local communities.
