Wits liver programme reaches 1,000 transplants

Wits University's Liver Transplant Programme has completed its 1,000th liver transplant, marking a major milestone for healthcare in South Africa.
Since 2004, the programme has treated 637 adults and 363 children through a partnership between Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital.
The programme has introduced advanced transplant techniques, including living donor and HIV-positive donor liver transplants, to expand access to treatment.
Doctors say more registered organ donors are still needed to help patients waiting for life-saving transplants.

800 residents run to revive Lonehill Dam

More than 800 residents joined the 24th Otter Estates Lonehill Fun Run/Walk in Johannesburg to raise funds for the Lonehill Dam revival project.
The 5km fun run and walk, held on 1 August, was organised by the Lonehill Residents Association with support from local sponsors.
Funds raised will help restore the dam and support environmental projects in the area.
The event brought together runners, walkers and community groups to improve a shared public space.

Spotify adds 16 million new users

Paying subscribers also increased to 300 million, while profit and revenue posted strong growth during the quarter.
The company expects subscriber growth to slow in the next quarter, sending its shares down 2.6% in early New York trading.
