University of Pretoria Researchers Win Five Major NSTF-South32 Awards

Researchers from the University of Pretoria took home five top awards at the prestigious NSTF-South32 ceremony, recognised for excellence in science, technology, and innovation.
Among the winners were Professor Lise Korsten for lifetime achievement in food safety, the Mammal Research Institute Whale Unit for whale monitoring, and Professor Namrita Lall for pharmaceutical innovations.
The university’s Vehicle Dynamics Group and Professor Ryan Blumenthal were also honoured for engineering research and science communication.

A Tshwane North TVET College graduate has developed a battery-powered nail dryer to keep her nail salon running during load-shedding.
After struggling to find in-service training, Keletso Rampedi started her own nail business. When power cuts began affecting her income, she joined a tech skills programme run by Greycode and funded by MICT Seta.
Though not officially selected, she volunteered without pay to gain the skills.
The training helped her create a working device.
The programme aims to boost youth entrepreneurship through practical experience in electronics and innovation.
