Gauteng to host Africa’s first-ever LIV Golf Tournament in 2026

The Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says the province looks forward to host the world famous LIV Golf Tournament in March next year.

The historic achievement marks the first time LIV Golf will be played in the African continent.

More than 50 of the best players in the world will gather at the Steyn City Golf Club in Johannesburg,
to compete for individual and team titles.

The Tournament is expected to generate significant tourism revenue, create thousands of jobs and position the Gauteng province as Africa’s premier sporting destination.

Lesufi says the milestone proves that the province is a prime destination to host significant world class events.

Durban will host the 3rd Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Summit

Aviation leaders from around the world will gather in Durban from the 12th of August, for the 3rd Next Generation of Aviation Professionals Global Summit, jointly hosted by the International Civil Aviation Organization and the South African Civil Aviation Authority.

The summit comes in response to aviation’s growing need for a qualified, inclusive and future-ready workforce to support long-term growth and resilience across the sector.

Through its role in the Single African Air Transport Market initiative, South Africa is expected to contribute to job creation across the continent, with nearly 600,000 jobs forecast to be generated in Africa alone.

The Summit will provide a platform for governments, industry players, training institutions and youth representatives to align on strategies to develop aviation talent pipelines.

R670 Million Google investment set to advance AI development in Africa

Technology giant Google has announced R670 million in cumulative funding to support artificial intelligence development across Africa, along with the launch of a new AI Community Centre in Accra, Ghana.

The multinational corporation is also backing the development of AI tools in over 40 African languages through R54million in funding for the Masakhane Research Foundation.

Additional funding will support education-focused programmes across Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa, as well as a catalytic initiative aimed at helping over 100 AI-driven startups.
The company says the move builds on its broader efforts to support Africa’s growing AI talent base and to ensure technologies are developed with local context and global relevance.
