Brakpan community combines fitness with giving

Brakpan SAPS brought the community together for a 5 kilometre walk and aerobics session to close off Women’s Month.
Participants were asked to bring a packet of sanitary pads, with the donations set to support young girls at schools in the Brakpan area.
Women in law enforcement, community members and their families took part, with one elderly wheelchair user also completing the 5 kilometre walk.
The initiative promoted healthy living while supporting girls’ health and dignity.

575 gogos celebrate health and friendship at Gogolympics

Five hundred and seventy five grandmothers from across eThekwini came together in Hillcrest for HACT’s 11th Gogolympics.
The event brought women from 15 communities together for traditional games, sport and plenty of fun, while promoting healthy and active ageing.
Health services were also available, including breast health examinations from PinkDrive and a mobile clinic.
The event also celebrated 20 years of HACT’s Gogo Support Group Programme, which now has more than 65 groups supporting older women and their families.

The South African Muslim Charitable Trust and other partners have helped provide a new computer laboratory at Drommedaris Primary School in Reiger Park.
More than 1,800 learners will now have access to computers, helping them develop digital skills and gain practical experience with technology.
The school says the facility will also give learners opportunities to explore careers in fields such as technology, engineering and science.
The project is an important investment in a school that faces overcrowding and limited resources.
