The inaugural Gauteng Department of Education's Sci-botics competition has been hailed as a resounding success.

The MEC for Education and Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation in Gauteng, Matome Chiloane,
hosted the competition at the SCI-Bono convention center in New Town on Thursday.
The aim of the initiative was for learners between grades 1 and 11 to showcase their skills, innovation and team work in Science and robotics.

Chiloane says the competition represents a strategic vision for education in Gauteng.

The Eastern Cape Department of Health is hosting a cataract surgery drive, in a bid to address backlogs.

The initiative, which is an annual multi day event, will help fast-track surgeries for patients who have been on waiting lists for extended periods.

The programme is also aimed at reducing vision challenges and mark world site day, which is celebrated in the month of October and aims to promote eye and vision care.

Cape Town Port recognised for improved global ranking

The Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has congratulated the port of Cape Town on its improvement in the World Bank's world of Port efficiency ranking.

The port gained the most points globally in the 2024 Container Port Index published by the World Bank and the S&P Global market intelligence, moving up from its previous position of 400th place out of 403 ports.

Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says an efficient port could create 20 000 new jobs, add R6 billion in exports and over R1,6 billion in new tax revenue.
